Boys golf: Foothill Wins NCS TOC; Amador Loses Tiebreaker, Won't Advance

Foothill shoots astounding 372 to win North Coast Section Tournament of Champions

If the Foothill High boys golf team continues at its current rate, there could be a state championship in its future.

The Falcons were on another level at Monday's North Coast Section Tournament of Champions at Baywood Golf and Country Club in Arcata, shooting a 12-over par, 372, to take the team title.

Nicolo Galletti (72), Travis Rowney (73), Brett Thaley (75), Roshan Chekuri (76) and Matt Beadle (76) combined to top second-place De La Salle by 10 shots.

Foothill advances to the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California Championships at t the Diablo Grande Resort Golf Club — Legends West Course in Patterson on May 24. It was the same course the East Bay Athletic League tournament was held on May 3.

Amador Valley turned in a solid effort as well, with a 393 to finish in a third-place tie with Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa. However, the Dons will not advance to NorCals after losing the sixth-card tiebreaker with the Cardinals.

The top six individual players not apart of any of the top-three teams at NorCals will advance to the State Championships at Santa Maria Country Club in Santa Maria on June 8.

De La Salle's Johny De Los Reyes, who also was the low score at the South Qualifier, shot a 67 to earn medalist honors. Cal's Justin Haley finished second.
