Giants or A’s? Or Both?

Heading into the post season both Bay Area teams are in the playoffs. Where are your loyalties?

Are you a National League or American League fan?  Do you bleed green and gold or orange and black?

With both Bay Area teams in the playoffs we may find out.

The Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants both won their divisions and open their playoff series this weekend- the A’s against the Detroit Tigers and the Giants against the Cinncinatti Reds.

The teams have something in common this year besides geography-  they both have the same regular season record of 94 wins and 68 losses.

There is a historical similarity too.  The only time the A’s were alone in first place in their division this season was at the end of the last game of the season.  In 1951, Bobby Thompson’s homerun against the Brooklyn Dodgers came on the last day of the regular season in a game added as a tie-breaker.  That was the only time the Giants were alone in first place that year.

Both the 2012 A’s and the 1951 Giants teams came from 13 game back to make the playoffs.

Are you a Giants fan or an A’s fan?  If you are a Chicago Cubs fan, there's always next year.

Tell us in the comments why you root for one team or the other.

My husband and I truly love the A's and Giants. Our hope is that the A's get a brand new Oakland ball yard to play great baseball in!!

I am one of the few Oakland A's fans in Pleasanton! I am usually wearing a green A's cap in downtown tipping that cap to my fellow PTown baseball fans adorned in black and orange. I am a lifelong A's fan, originally from Hayward. I was a child when the A's of the early 70's won back-back-back titles, but I was old enough to know that the team was special. My roots were further planted when my football team packed up and moved south when I was a teenager. I was not a 49'ers fan, and I wasn't going to pretend I was, so instead, I stopped following the LOS ANGELES Tra--Raiders and went all in on the green and gold! I was rewarded with those amazing teams on the late 80's and early 90's. The Bash Brothers, Ricky Henderson, Dave "Smoke" Stewart, etc. And as you can imagine, I am enjoying this iteration of the Athletics, maybe more than those team in the past -- because it wasn't expected. Here's hoping for a Bay Bridge II series -- and with all due respect to my fellow baseball fans of black and orange -- here's hoping for the same result (sans earthquake).

I have been a loyal A's fan from the day they moved to Oakland. I remember listening to their first game against Baltimore (a 4 to 1 loss) in my bed. I have never been a Giants fan, even when they were the only team in town. I am not a Giant hater, though I do get tired of listening to some of their fans. I do root for Brandon Crawford however. The Crawfords and our family grew up together and I enjoyed many years assisting Mike Crawford with the coaching of our son's baseball, basketball and soccer teams.

Been an A's fan all my life, because of my father. He was raised in Oakland and the A's have always been his team, so I grew up in an A's (and Raiders) household. Let's go Oakland!

True Fans? A's all the way ( Owners of logo wear? Giants --band wagon fans from a couple years ago may have absolute numbers). The majority of A's fans are longstanding followers who actually understand the game (rules, strategy, and history)- and know their players ( including the bench, bullpen)

I am siding with the Orange and Black, baby! GO GIANTS!!

By the way, for some of you big-mouthed A's fans, true fan or not, I believed in my Giants since they won the 2010 World Series. That lead me to realize where I was born in. And guess what, I actually WAS born in Giants country in 1991, but grew up in A's country for about a few years before moving here to San Leandro. So there.

Victor (2nd year Giants fan) .... Your quote: "made you realize where you were born in" ? Hmmmmm? (or should i say : "Humm-baby" lol ... Oh wait, you probably don't remember Giants manager Roger Craig- never mind ! )

A's all the way GO A's,,,,,
Victor Li October 07, 2012 at 01:45 AM
So true... but I am familiar with the "Hum-baby" phrase several times as a Giants fan -- at least from other Giants fans online.

Victor Li And how many titles have they won mmmmmmmmlets see 1
Victor Li October 07, 2012 at 05:36 AM
I think the SF Giants won 2 WS titles when they were the NY Giants (baseball) and one more in SF, leaving them 3 WS titles. And hey Ann, I know you're quizzing me because you must be a TRUE A's fan who has a LOT OF baseball knowledge. They may have the best record in ALL of baseball, but we'll see if my Giants can top the Green & Gold if both teams can make it to this year's World Series. As for me, If I am not TOO busy from watching any baseball game, I can learn some stats in baseball and some history of the team during each of them although I could usually end up forgetting most of them. Do YOU learn them when you started loving to watch baseball on TV or at the ACTUAL ballpark? I don't go to ballparks, but I always watch games at home. But even though I may be wrong about the facts of the Giants, don't even try to be cocky of me being an UNTRUE Giants fan, especially from your fellow big-mouthed A's fans because you all are just scaring me and some other untrue Giants fans into giving up on cheering on my favorite baseball team. True or untrue fan, I will still be cheering on for the Giants until the end.
