First Wednesday Street Series Adding ArtBlock, Market on Main, and Movies

To kick off the 2012 event season, the recently introduced several new elements to their long-standing First Wednesday Street Party series. 

In May, the PDA collaborated with the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association to convert the 800 block of Main Street into “Market on Main” - the First Wednesday iteration of Pleasanton’s Saturday morning farmers’ market. 

Market on Main will be back for the four remaining First Wednesdays (June 6, July 11, August 1 and September 5) featuring a dozen local growers selling fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Also new in May was ArtBlock, where 25 local artists, sculptors and jewelry crafters, all who specialize in exquisite, hand-made arts and crafts, displayed their work. 

ArtBlock will continue through the rest of the season, on Angela Street at the same location as the Pleasanton Saturday Farmer’s Market. 

During each event, a pre-selected artist will be in attendance to offer live demonstrations and discuss their work. 

June’s featured artist is long-time Pleasanton resident Debbie Wardrope. Local singers/guitarists Austin Stoddard, Roem Baur and Steven Gary will provide live music ArtBlock in June, August, and July and September respectively.  

The First Wednesday Street Party on June 6 will be the official kick-off of the First Wednesday Movie Series, which will be co-hosted by the downtown assocation and the city of Pleasanton and will bring feature films to downtown. 

A projector, screen and speakers will be set up to allow seating in Delucchi Park.  Residents are encouraged to set up lawn chairs and blankets (at their own risk) as early as the morning of the movie.  The First Wednesday Movie Series will occur on June 6, July 11, and August 1 and will feature the new Footloose movie, Super 8 and Green Lantern respectively.  All shows will begin at 8:45.     

June’s Beer and Wine Garden will feature live music by local favorite Finding Stella, along with beers from the and Markstein Sales Co., and wines from Fenestra, Hannah Nicole and Rodrigue Molyneaux.  

Pleasanton’s 1st Wednesday street parties draw more than 20,000 residents from the local area. The addition of ArtBlock, Market on Main, and Movies on Main complements an already exciting array of vendor booths, beer and wine garden, food and live music.
