Foothill High School (FHS), which opened in 1973, is a public high school in northwestern Pleasanton. The school, currently under the leadership of Principal John Dwyer, has been a California Distinguished High School five times and achieved an API score of 889 in 2009. It is well-known for producing well-educated students ready for challenging colleges and careers. In all, 79 percent of students are currently taking courses that will qualify them for the University of California or California State University systems. The school's award-winning marching band is well known nationally, and the yearly autumnal Foothill Band Review draws large crowds on Main Street as dozens of marching bands parade through town before competing at the school.
