<p>The City of Pleasanton's first public schools were established in 1867. Today, the Pleasanton Unified School District has nine elementary schools, three middle schools, two comprehensive high schools and two alternative high schools. The district also runs the Amador Valley Adult and Community Education, which attracts adult members of the community.</p>
<p>Overall, the district has 14,500 students. Leading the district is Superintendent John M.
