Danville resident Amanda Nejat was arrested in February when Pleasanton Police responded to reports of unattended infants in an SUV at Stoneridge Mall. She plead not guilty to two counts of child endangerment in March and will be back in court Wednesday.
The Danville mother who was arrested in February after leaving her infant twins unattended in the Stoneridge Mall parking lot in Pleasanton, is due in court Wednesday morning for a pre-trial hearing. Amanda Nejat, 46, plead not guilty in March to two counts of cruelty to a child by endangering health. Pleasanton Police arrested Nejat on Feb. 8 after someone noticed two unattended infants crying in a parked Cadillac Escalade in the Stoneridge Mall parking lot. The witness called police and mall security and when the mother -- who turned out to be Nejat -- returned, she was arrested. The infants were 11-week-old twins. Nejat's pre-trial will be in department 703, at the Pleasanton courthouse at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Based on security camera …

Updated at 7:45 a.m. From Bay City News Service: All lanes of Interstate Highway 680 near Bernal Avenue in Pleasanton have re-opened following a big rig crash that required about seven hours of clean-up, a California Highway Patrol officer said Monday morning. The CHP received a report of the crash around 9:55 p.m. Sunday of a big rig with an attached trailer driving northbound along Highway 680 south of Sunol Boulevard. The big rig jack-knifed into the roadway's center divider, leaving the truck on its side across northbound lanes and the trailer in southbound lanes, CHP Officer Steve Creel said. The big rig's driver, 62-year-old William Andrews, suffered only minor injuries in the crash, which sent chunks of debris …

Looking past the hurdles, it's easy to see the positives in middle school.
Parents and staff at Hart Middle School still display surprise over my family’s enrollment in the school this year. “What?” they ask, befuddled. “How is it possible that you have three kids here?" Not wanting to look like a know-it-all by pointing out the obvious (middle school has three grades), or the possible (a family could have triplets) or other possible ways to have three or more kids in a middle school (blended families, multiple multiples, etc.), I smile and list my sixth-grade twin daughters and my eighth-grade son. Few adults list ages 11-14 as their favorite part of growing up. We’ve all experienced the physical awkwardness of growing too much or too little, the identity challenges of sitting between childhood and maturity, and…

This fall bicyclists and pedestrians will have a safe route between Dublin and Pleasanton
The rain did not put a damper on a groundbreaking ceremony today for the Alamo Canal Trail Undercrossing. The bike trail is part of the East Bay Regional Park District’s First Green Transportation Initiative and will provide “safe bike and pedestrian access,” said Ayn Wieskamp, who is a member of the East Bay Regional Parks Board. The new trail will provide a link between Dublin and Pleasanton for adults and children to travel safely and without needing a vehicle. Congressman Jerry McNerney calls the trail a “great thing.” “This will create jobs and create infrastructure,” said McNerney. “This is a real opportunity for allowing people to get out and enjoy the scenery.” Wieskamp says this project is possible through collaboration of …

A project update from the Tri-Valley Regional Rail Policy Working Group
Transportation officials gave the public an update Thursday about the next steps to funding BART to Livermore “Phase One.” Stacey Mortensen, the Executive Director of the Alameda County Regional Rail Commission, said that funding for the California High Speed Rail/Altamont Corridor Rail Project is “potentially on the horizon.” “Along the Altamont corridor, there is $3 million to keep planning,” said Mortensen. “There are still issues in Livermore and Pleasanton.” “We are focused on what makes sense today rather than long-range,” she said. “It will be much more incremental now.” According to a hand-out shared at the meeting, in January the Alameda County Transportation Commission approved a draft of the Alameda County Transportation …
