Sprouts & Shutters: The 1st Hunan Chef Wong Restaurant Closing After 28 Years

The popular Chinese restaurant will be closing its doors due to a dispute over the rent with the landlords.

The last day of March will mark a sad moment for locals looking to get their Chinese food fix downtown. The 1st Hunan Chef Wong Restaurant, a well-known Pleasanton mainstay tucked back in the corner at 239 Main Street, will be closing its doors for good, according to a sign posted on the fish tank inside the restaurant.

The sign says:

"Dear Customer: Due to a dispute with the landlord, the 1st Hunan Chef Wong Restaurant will be permanently closed on March 31, 2013. Thank you for your business and support for the past 28 years."

Hunan employees declined to comment, except to say they were sad to be leaving the community. The restaurant was a frequent for city officials, who could walk from their offices for lunch.

The owner of the property has not returned calls for comment.
