Alcoholic Beverage Decoy Operation Results in 11 Citations Issued at Local Businesses

Employees from 11 businesses in Pleasanton were cited for selling sold alcoholic beverages to the decoys.

Information from the Pleasanton Police Department—

On the evening of Friday, November 15, 2013, the Pleasanton Police Department Special Enforcement Unit, in collaboration with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, conducted a minor decoy operation throughout the City of Pleasanton.  The purpose of the program is to ensure retail businesses are complying with the law by refusing to sell alcoholic beverages to minors. Minimizing alcohol sales to minors creates a safer environment for minors as well as for the rest of the community.

Four volunteers ranging in age from 16 to 19 years made attempts to purchase alcoholic beverages at ABC licensed restaurants, bars, liquor stores, and other businesses that sell alcohol.

Decoys visited 37 businesses in the City. 26 establishments were successful in properly asking for identification and denying the attempted purchase of alcohol. However, employees at 11 businesses sold alcoholic beverages to the decoys.
