Passenger Killed in Fatal Collision Identified

Boyd Fowler, 67, of Hayward, was identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as the passenger in a collision on Interstate Highway 680 in Pleasanton.

By Bay City News--

A Hayward man was killed Wednesday evening when an SUV he was
riding in drove off of Interstate Highway 680 in Pleasanton and hit a tree,
authorities said.

A spokeswoman for the Alameda County coroner's bureau identified the victim today as Boyd Fowler, 67.

The driver of the compact SUV, a 74-year-old Hayward woman,
suffered major injuries and was taken to Eden Medical Center, California
Highway Patrol Officer D. Reed said. Her name has not yet been released.

Reed said the 2000 Honda CR-V was traveling north on the highway,
south of the West Las Positas Road overcrossing, at about 65 miles per hour
around 5:30 p.m. when it veered off the roadway for an unknown reason, went
down an embankment and hit a large tree.

Reed said both the driver and the passenger were wearing seat
belts, and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The investigation is continuing, he said.
