Crime & Safety

Police Log: Serious 'Dough' Stolen from Pizza Restaurant; Car Break-Ins at Sports Park

Two Hearst-area daytime burglaries, "pay" option at regional jail, and more from July 28 to Aug. 3.

Intruders broke into Round Table Pizza on Hopyard Road last week making off with $7,500, according to the Pleasanton Police Department.

Sometime overnight, between 10 p.m. Thursday and 7:40 a.m. Friday, burglars got into the closed restaurant stealing a 150-pound floor safe, one cash register and a cash drawer containing the cash, reports state.

The crooks also helped themselves to the restaurant's dolly cart to, apparently, help hoist the loot to a getaway vehicle.

And on Monday evening, car burglars smashed two vehicles' windows and stole purses, wallets and phones as the unsuspecting victims worked out at the Sports Park off Hopyard Road, police said.

A female jogger reported purses, a wallet, cash and credit cards, valued at a combined $850 stolen. A man on the volleyball courts lost two phones and a wallet, worth $1,450 combined, from his car, reports state.

Anyone who may have witnessed these crimes, or has information regarding the suspects and their cars, should contact police at 925-931-5100.

In other news, is this a concept Santa Rita Jail should consider? Charging for nicer cellblocks?

Those sentenced to jail time in Fremont for a misdemeanor typically bunk up in a tiny cell at the county jail. But now there's an alternative for those who can afford it: clean, modern accommodations in Fremont’s  “Pay-to-Stay” program

For $155 a day, plus a $45 one-time processing fee, those approved by a sentencing magistrate can serve their time in a “modern, clean and efficiently operated jail facility,” according to the Fremont Police Department.  More on that program here.
