UPDATE: Overnight Vandalism Damages Lydiksen Elementary Playground

Updated at 4:10 p.m.: Parents at Lydiksen Elementary received an automated phone message this afternoon about the morning graffiti incident from Principal Mindy Bolar. Bolar's message said that school officials believe the graffiti happened overnight and was not made by Lydiksen students.

Bolar added that during the school day, another student wrote a threatening message in chalk on the playground, likely intended for the vandals. Bolar's message said that the chalk incident has been addressed by the Lydiksen staff.

Original story:

Staff and students arriving at Lydiksen Elementary this morning discovered graffiti on several locations on the playground.

Vandals used blue spray paint to paint a large spider on the middle of one of the slides and painted a crudely drawn picture of the school mascot on the fence that separates the playground from the private pool next door. Vandals also spray-painted on the blacktop.

Principal Mindy Bolar said maintenance workers had already been called to clean up the graffiti.

This is one of many incidences of recent vandalism in a Pleasanton school. As recently as last week, threatening graffiti was found in the girls' bathroom at Pleasanton Middle School.

Over Memorial Day weekend, vandals damaged computers in the library at Harvest Park Middle School.

Both Foothill High School and Amador Valley High School have also had incidences of graffiti in bathrooms since the beginning of the year.
